Biosatelite. AR Group Exhibition, 2021

Group exhibition in augmented reality, On the Moon, 2021

Virtual works of art on the Moon were created by six artists – Evita Vasiljeva, Kaspars Groševs, Gustavs Lociks, Viktors Timofejevs, Jānis Dzirnieks and Gints Gabrāns. Each work of art with GPS coordinates is linked to a specific zone in real space. From these zones, with the help of a virtual space lift, you can get to each individual work.

Inhabiting the moon may soon become a reality, as several countries and private companies have planned to implement such a scenario in the next 10 to 20 years. The colonization of the gray Earth’s satellite is basically motivated by resource extraction, space tourism and geopolitical competition. Colonization scenarios are being actively developed, solving practical issues related to the creation of an environment suitable for human survival. The works of the exhibition turn to the artistic aspects of the exploration of the Moon’s space.

Gustavs Lociks’ work “Biosatellite” plays on the Fermi paradox, or the discrepancy between probability calculations about the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations and the evidence for such civilizations. Perhaps we lack such evidence because we define life too narrowly?
